Don't Make Photographs, Think Them

The exhibition explores the recontextualization of historical photographic archives through contemporary artistic perspectives. Curated by Jan Tichy and inspired by Rod Slemmons’ collection, the show invites Chicago-based photographers to engage with historical cameras and photographs.
The exhibition examines the intersection of photography with global economic and ecological issues, activates historical archives through creative interpretation, and showcases works by multiple generations of Chicago photographers.
The title “Don’t make photographs, think them” is a motto from Hedrich & Blessing Photographers, a studio known for innovative architectural photography from 1929 to 2017.
